The Seed
This is the link to the Audiobook I found on youtube. I can’t find the original, and I’m not quite sure that this wasn’t AI slop, but it didn’t feel like slop? If there’s anyone on this planet who can tell, it’s probably me. The details were consistent throughout the book, and the motifs made thematic sense. The cover art in the videos on the channel feel like slop, though. Slop for sure! But I did genuinely enjoy it quite a bit. I noticed that the comments were full of praise and the uploader replying to every single one. So I left a comment politely asking for where the uploader found the book and how I could get my hands on it. It’s been 3 days and I’ve yet to receive a reply. I wouldn’t be surprised if maybe it’s someone else’s novel and the uploader used an LLM or other digital tool to swap out all the nouns to make it more difficult to figure out who the original author is. It’s not like they’re pretending to have written it themselves?
It was a short Sci-Fi novel about what it’s like to wake up with no memory in the dark, but with hands that know what to do, as if it was second nature. It was psychological, starts slow and builds steadily to a climax. The protagonist is constantly making decisions, weighing pros and cons, trying his best to stack the odds towards his survival in a small spaceship, careening towards a planet he can see from window in his vessel. In between working on the ship’s systems to confirm a safe entry to the planet’s atmosphere, he has these moments of total exhaustion, falling asleep and remembering bits about his past, people he knew, why he’s here on this ship, what he’s doing this all for. I found it to be gripping and fun!
